How Costco and Target price adjustments work
Last verified August 17, 2026, against each store's own policy page. Store policies change; the store's own page is the final word.
A price adjustment is a refund of the difference when a store lowers its own price on something you already bought. It isn't a price match against another store. Each store sets its own window and rules, and each request is a request, not a guarantee.
Costco
- Costco only adjusts against its own price drops, for purchases that reduce in price within 30 days of the purchase date.
- For items with specific sale dates, such as Holiday Savings Promotions, the request must fall within both the promotion dates and those 30 days. Being inside 30 days isn't enough on its own.
- Bought at a warehouse: go to the Returns counter at the warehouse where you bought it. Bring the card you paid with; most warehouses can pull up the purchase from your membership, though some may ask for the receipt.
- Bought on Costco.com: use "Request a price match" on Costco customer service. Credits typically post to your original payment method in 5 to 10 business days.
- Warehouse and Costco.com prices are treated separately. A Costco.com price doesn't adjust a warehouse purchase, and the reverse.
- Resellers are excluded. Gold bullion and Tire & Wheel promotions follow different rules, and Special Order Kiosk and Home Improvement Installed Products have their own promotion windows.
- Costco adjusts to the price on the day you ask, and the warehouse makes the call.
Target
- Target matches its own lower price within 14 days: Target.com, Target stores, the Target app and Target Circle deals. Competitors aren't matched.
- Target items can't be matched to Target Plus items, or the reverse.
- In store: ask at checkout or at Guest Services. Bring the original receipt, paper or in the Target app.
- Online: use Target.com chat, or call Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869, with your order number ready.
- Show the lower price live on your phone. Target doesn't accept screenshots or pictures.
- Excluded items include clearance, closeout, open-package, refurbished and pre-owned items, among others. See Target's full list.
- Target matches the price shown at the time you ask, and the store makes the call.
